For over 40 years, Ian Dogole (www.iandogole.com) has articulated his vision of Music Beyond Borders as a multipercussionist, bandleader, educator, recording artist, composer and producer. Ian’s music draws upon the innovations of the Jazz tradition, as well as the scales, rhythms and instruments from the dizzying array of indigenous music cultures across the planet. Ian’s mission is to uplift spirits, open hearts and expand horizons through recordings, live performances and music
education.
Ian has released ten recordings (including a DVD) as a leader. His most recent release was “The Last Trane to Africa,” an Afro-infused tribute to John Coltrane. Ian plays percussion instruments from Africa, the Middle East, South America and Europe. He has received numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, InterMusic SF and the Marin Arts Council. Ian is an active music educator in the Marin and Sonoma County schools.
