Sierra Ensemble, a San Francisco Bay Area-based violin, horn and piano trio, was founded in 1998 by horn player Janis Lieberman and two fellow Bay Area musicians. Sierra has performed extensively in communities throughout northern California, and has also toured the east coast and recently performed in Istanbul, Turkey. Sierra Ensemble has been recorded on the CD: “Heartstrings” Museum Music label. Winner of the 2012 CTA ArtsLink, and U.S. Department of State grants for their Turkish American Composers Project, 2013, Sierra Ensemble has commissioned Tolga Z. Özdemir, from Istanbul, and Iranian composer, Aida Shirazi as well as American composer Russell Steinberg to create new repertoire for Violin, Horn, Piano trio.
