Mimi Dye, founder of the Topaz Jazz Ensemble, is an acclaimed violist, violinist, composer, and educator known for her eloquent artistry and rich tone. Following her New York debut at Carnegie’s Weill Hall, she has performed internationally, from San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre to the Sydney Opera House. Her career spans solo, chamber, and orchestral work, including engagements with the Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco Ballet. A composer and former student of Darius Milhaud, her works are praised for their freshness and clarity. She currently teaches and directs a chamber orchestra in Palo Alto, CA, continuing to inspire students with her deep musical insight and passion.
