Expanding the traditional format of a classical recital, vocalist Chelsea Hollow and pianist Taylor Chan create cathartic and innovative programs incorporating percussion, live electronic processing, sampled sound, and audience participation. Chelsea Hollow (soprano) and Taylor Chan (piano) are classically trained artists who continue to perform in traditional operatic, concert, and orchestral settings. In 2020, they started formally collaborating and discovered their mutual joy in pushing the boundaries of classical music to invite in new audiences and refresh the song canon. In 2022, they premiered Cycles of Resistance, a cathartic musical album/recital chronicling of international resistance movements. Featuring 22 commissions in 8 languages for coloratura, piano, live electronic processing (vocoder, looper, sampling, and live sonic manipulations) and audience participations, this work was the beginning of developing a more interdisciplinary concert concept. They continue to perform Cycles of Resistance as they build up their next recital/album, Natural Artifice. This new program continues pushing the limits of classical recitals as they are envisioning an entirely new format that fully harnesses the exhilarating potential of modern technology and values.
