Music Beyond Borders is a unique blend of Jazz and multicultural musical forms that span the diverse musical traditions of the planet. For nearly 40 years, Ian Dogole has created music that draws upon the innovations of the jazz tradition, as well as the scales, rhythms and instruments from the indigenous music cultures across the planet. Music Beyond Borders goal is to uplift spirits, open hearts and expand horizons through recordings, live performances and music education.
Inspired by John Coltrane’s legendary music and his angelic spirit, Ian Dogole and his world-class collaborators will embark on a new recording project titled The Last Trane to Africa – an Afrocentric homage to John Coltrane. Utilizing an unusual array of African percussion instruments and other world percussion in concert with more traditional Jazz instruments such as piano, double bass and saxophones, this recording project intends to offer listeners a transcendent musical experience that uplifts the spirit and delights the senses. Pieces include “Africa,” “Spiritual,” “Dahomey Dance,” “Tunji” and more. Musicians include Ian Dogole – global percussion; Richard Howell – saxophones, vocals; Frank Martin – piano; Gary Brown – double bass; David Frazier – shakers & bells and Avotcja – poetry.
