The mission of the Payvand Vocal Ensemble (PVE) is to foster cultural understanding and human connection by bridging diverse musical traditions. The ensemble achieves this by championing Persian literature and music while simultaneously celebrating and performing high-quality choral works from all corners of the world.
PVE’s artistic philosophy is rooted in the concept of ‘Payvand,’ a Persian word for “connection” or “bridge.” The ensemble’s intention is to transform the traditional choral setting into a dynamic platform for cross-cultural dialogue. Under the direction of composer and conductor Amin Assadi, PVE curates programs that are both musically rigorous and socially relevant. The ensemble aims to elevate underrepresented global repertoires, challenge musical boundaries, and demonstrate the unifying power of vocal performance. By juxtaposing seemingly disparate musical languages—from classical Persian melodies to contemporary international pieces—PVE strives to create an inclusive soundscape that actively promotes empathy, educational enrichment, and community strengthening across ethnic and cultural backgrounds in the Bay Area.
