In her music, Ruthie Dineen incorporates her vast musical and personal influences, including her Latin heritage, classical and jazz musical background, and love for composition and improvisation. Currently, Dineen’s music career is focused on both composition and performance.
With significant classical influence, her composition draws much of its’ artistic influence from several cultural art-forms, including jazz, salsa, boleros, and more. Dineen, born in the Bay Area, with a Salvadoran mother and Irish-American father, she was surrounded by a true mixture of cultures, identities, and sounds. Coming from a family of social justice warriors, it’s central for her to pay tribute and uplift the identities of diverse communities and artists, creating the space for fusion and new mixtures of sound in musical composition and performance. Dineen prioritizes collaboration throughout all of her work, including with long-term musical partners Tiffany Austin (vocalist), Melinda Martinez Becker (vocalist), Friction Quartet (string quartet), as well as others.
