Mission Rebel No.1 is a newly-commissioned project created by David James and performed by and expanded (octet) version of GPS. Inspired by a youth empowerment organization led by his father, Rev. Jesse James, the work is an exploration into a complicated life and turbulent times that uses music to breathe life into found footage, audio clips, photographs, and newsprint about “a groovy rebellion” of Black and Latino youth in the Mission District of the 1960’s-70’s.
