Audition for the National Children’s Chorus San Francisco Chapter!

The San Francisco chapter of the GRAMMY award winning National Children’s Chorus is holding auditions for students, ages 5 to 17, on Sunday, August 4 at 4pm PT through the end of the month. Auditions are held via Zoom. The audition fee for the whole process, including a private one-on-one evaluation, is $45. Apply now to book an audition and attend the online information presentation on Sunday, August 4.

The initial Zoom meeting will be a live information session about NCC. Applicants will also select an appointment for their one-on-one private video audition with one of NCC’s conductors.

Rehearsals and classes take place near the San Francisco Conservatory of Music on Tuesday evenings beginning in September.

The National Children’s Chorus guides students to find their voice and achieve their best through unparalleled vocal training in an extraordinary musical environment. Through the NCC, students get to connect and collaborate with their peers nationwide. The organization consists of 33 choirs based in the chapter cities of Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, Boston, and Chicago. Instructors work weekly with students to develop their vocal skills from the most basic concepts through the college level. Students develop tone quality, breath support, and artistic expression while working together as an ensemble.

In the Junior Division of the San Francisco chapter, students who are ages 5-9 and have beginning or intermediate musical experience build their skills and gain confidence in encouraging and creative rehearsal environments and performances. The Junior Division audition will consist of the following elements: scales, rhythmic exercises, and pitch matching.

In the Senior Division of the San Francisco chapter, students who are ages 10-17 and have some prior musical experience, refine their skills. The Senior Division audition will consist of scales, rhythmic exercises, and a solo piece which will be sung a capella, though a starting pitch may be requested. Suggested pieces include “Caro Mio Ben” or “The Star-Spangled Banner”. Each chorister learns the same repertoire at each level and is uniformly trained so that members may participate in any concert across the nation and essentially design their own concert season. Students will be part of world premieres and collaborate with an exceptional roster of professional artists. The Senior Division also travels abroad in an international tour each summer.
